Bridgnorth Motive Power Depot Guided Tour

Bridgnorth Motive Power Depot Guided Tour

Severn Valley Railway, Kidderminster, Worcestershire,

Ever wanted to know what happens behind the roller shutter doors of Bridgnorth Motive Power Depot? Inside the motive power depot at Bridgnorth, the SVR’s engineers use their considerable skills to maintain, overhaul and restore the railway’s fleet of steam locomotives. Usually, it all happens behind closed doors.

But, now you have the opportunity for a guided tour with one of our team and see how we keep our steam locomotive fleet operational! Tours last roughly 60 minutes and, with a member of the team, you’ll get the opportunity to see ‘where the magic happens’. There are four tours each day, with the first tour of each day timed so passengers arriving for the first service of the day from Bridgnorth at 11.55am can fit it in before catching their train! Places to see include: Locomotive Yard – see how we prep a locomotive for a days work and get up close with members of our active home fleet Locomotive works – get up close to a range of locomotives in varying stages of repair and overhaul, including the new-build Riddles BR 3MT 262 No 82045 and Stanier Mogul No 13268, which is nearing the end of its overhaul. Paint shop – see how we keep our locomotives looking at their best and see how we change the look of locomotives for all sizes. Machine shop – see how we manufacture parts to original drawings You’ll have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have and find out about the volunteering opportunities available should you want to get involved with our M.P.D team. Please note, the Bridgnorth Motive Power Depot is an active engineering facility and you will need to follow all safety instructions given to you throughout the day. Due to uneven ground, please wear sensible shoes for the tour. We reserve the right to turn away visitors who arrive in unsuitable footwear (ie. flip flops).
