Experience a working railway from a new perspective on board our Diesel Freight Train Experience. Ride in an original guard’s brake van, hauled by a preserved British Railways diesel locomotive, along the scenic branch line between Buckfastleigh and Totnes. Travel in either a 1930s ‘Toad’ or 1950s ‘Shark’ brake van, complete with an open veranda. One leg of your journey will place you at the rear of the train, while the return puts you directly behind the loco for a powerful front-row view of diesel traction in action. Your ticket includes unlimited travel on all other South Devon Railway passenger services for the same day. With limited seating and open-air standing encouraged, we recommend dressing for the weather. This experience may not be suitable for children under 16 or those with mobility issues. Spaces are strictly limited, and advance booking is required.
