Climb aboard for the ultimate footplate adventure. This full day experience puts you at the controls of a heritage British Railways main line diesel locomotive. Under the expert guidance of our experienced crew, you will enjoy two complete round trips along the scenic South Devon Railway, 28 miles in total, with time both as driver and secondman. Begin your day at Buckfastleigh Station at 0830 with a welcome briefing and guided tour of the site, including the running shed where your locomotive is being prepared. You will meet the footplate crew before heading out to experience what it is really like to work a diesel on a heritage railway. You will drive the train for 14 miles and act as secondman for another 14. With four participants per day, you will rotate roles so that everyone gets equal time in the cab. Meanwhile, your guests, up to six per participant, can enjoy the ride from the comfort of the carriages. Hot and cold drinks are included for participants, and you will receive a personalised certificate as a memento of your day.
