World of Wizardry
World of Wizardry
Immerse yourself in the world of wizardry, as Horsted Keynes Station opens its doors to the magical realm of enchantment and wonder!
Step beyond the ordinary and into a world of enchantment as Horsted Keynes Station transforms into a spellbinding setting for a day of magical discovery. Steam drifts across the platforms, cloaking the scene in mystery as witches, wizards, and magical creatures gather for a truly immersive family experience.
Your adventure begins aboard the Express from either Sheffield Park or East Grinstead, heading to Horsted Keynes where the event takes place. Travel tickets are valid on any return service, giving visitors flexibility throughout the day. The event is organised around three timed workshop sessions, with plenty of free-flow activities and opportunities to explore.
During the day, children can take part in a range of hands-on magical experiences. The Potion Making Workshop, suitable for ages five and up, invites young wizards to mix their own potion using cauldrons, recipes, and proper tools to take home a finished brew. The Wand Making Workshop, for children aged four and above, allows them to create their own wand using air-drying clay, followed by a spell practice game using balloons. In the Games and Photo Booth Room, children can enjoy activities like an elf sock toss and a tabletop Quidditch challenge, dress up with props, and make a pencil broomstick craft to take home.
The magic continues outside with a Quidditch field space where visitors of all ages can try a simplified version of the game using broomsticks, balls, and themed equipment. A special scavenger hunt will be available at Horsted Keynes Station, featuring fantastical beast-inspired props and a map for participants to follow.
Throughout the day, a magician will be travelling aboard set A services, entertaining passengers en route to Horsted Keynes. These services include the 10.30am and 1.00pm departures from Sheffield Park and the 11.30am departure from East Grinstead. Visitors planning to take part in the workshops should make sure they board one of these trains in order to arrive in time for their chosen session.
The first workshop session opens at 10.45am and runs until 11.40am, with visitors encouraged to explore the station until the suggested departure at 12.05pm. The second session begins at 12.15pm and ends at 1.10pm, with suggested departure at 1.17pm. The final session runs from 1.20pm to 2.15pm, followed by a suggested departure at 2.35pm. Visitors with All Day Rover tickets may return on any service.
The entire station will be alive with roaming characters, interactive displays, magical props, and themed stalls offering sweet treats, curiosities, and gifts. Horsted Keynes becomes a place where the boundaries between reality and fantasy fade, and families are invited to step into a world of wonder where magic is not just imagined but experienced.
This is a family friendly event designed to capture the imagination of children and adults alike. Whether you are a young wizard ready to learn new skills or simply someone who enjoys a touch of the fantastical, this day at the Bluebell Railway promises an unforgettable journey into a magical realm.
