Bluebell Railway

The Bluebell Railway is one of the best-known heritage railways in Britain and was the first preserved standard gauge steam-operated passenger railway in the world to run a public service. It operates steam trains over an 11-mile route from Sheffield Park to East Grinstead, with intermediate stops at Horsted Keynes and Kingscote. Founded by the Bluebell Railway Preservation Society, the first train ran on 7 August 1960, less than three years after the line from East Grinstead to Lewes closed under British Railways. Today, the line offers visitors the chance to experience travel in lovingly restored carriages hauled by historic steam locomotives. Each station has its own character. Sheffield Park is home to the railway's museum and SteamWorks! exhibition, Horsted Keynes is a filming favourite with multiple platforms to explore, and Kingscote offers a peaceful countryside setting. The railway also runs an extensive programme of special events, dining trains, and themed experiences. Facilities include cafés, gift shops, picnic areas, and free museums. The railway is also available for weddings, private hire, corporate events, and filming. Located within easy reach of London and Brighton, it offers an unforgettable day out for families, enthusiasts, and visitors of all ages.
