Rails & Ales
Rails & Ales
Steam and diesel trains, local ales, and a countryside setting - Rails & Ales at the South Devon Railway combines heritage travel with our popular beer and cider festival at Staverton station.
Rails & Ales is a much-loved event at the South Devon Railway, bringing together heritage steam and diesel trains with a vibrant beer and cider festival at Staverton station.
Trains run throughout the day with frequent departures from Buckfastleigh and Totnes Riverside. Totnes Riverside is a short 450-metre walk from the mainline rail station and bus stops - ideal if you're travelling by public transport. Where possible, our timetable is designed to connect with mainline services.
Buckfastleigh offers a large free car park and easy bus links to and from Plymouth and Exeter. Please note there is no parking at Staverton, so we recommend using our heritage trains to travel to the event.
At Staverton, enjoy a fantastic selection of real ales, craft beers, and ciders served from the award-winning Devon Diesel Society bar. The Staverton Buffet Coach will also be open, offering a range of hot and cold snacks, soft drinks, teas, and coffees.
On the final evening, join us for a relaxed general knowledge quiz - just for fun and a great way to round off the event. Whether you're a fan of traditional railways, good beer, or both, Rails & Ales offers something for everyone in a truly unique setting.
