Mountsorrel and Rothley Community Heritage Centre

The Mountsorrel and Rothley Community Heritage Centre celebrates the area's quarrying and railway past with a wide range of attractions for all ages. Visitors can step inside historic buildings, learn through interactive displays and see restored locomotives and wagons that once served the local granite industry. There are woodland walks, peaceful gardens and a botanic area to explore, along with views across the quarry and railway. Children can enjoy the play zones, try den-building, or watch passing trains from picnic spots around the site. Look out for the stone masons' huts and other reminders of the industrial work carried out here in years gone by. The Railway Museum features the final steam locomotive built by Brush, plus a restored nineteenth-century coach and other heritage stock. On selected days, short rides operate on the narrow gauge line, and shunting demonstrations take place in the quarry, offering an engaging look at railway operations. Granites Coffee Shop provides a relaxed place to take a break, with indoor seating and quarry side views from the patio. Many of the plants seen across the grounds are grown in the onsite nursery, and the centre continues to develop through the work of volunteers and community supporters.
