Step back in time at the Colne Valley Railway and enjoy the sights, sounds and atmosphere of a traditional country railway. Your journey takes you almost a mile through the Essex countryside in lovingly restored carriages, hauled by vintage steam and diesel locomotives. The line features authentic station buildings, signal boxes and bridges that have all been carefully rebuilt to recreate the golden age of rail travel. Children and adults alike can enjoy the 7 1/4 inch miniature railway, the Travelling Post Office coach, where visitors can try sorting mail on the move, and a large interactive model railway in the Tierney Model Railway Shed. The museum and interpretation centre tell the story of the area and the former Colne Valley and Halstead Railway. At the same time, the working signal box offers a behind-the-scenes glimpse into railway operation.
