Avon Valley Railway

The Avon Valley Railway runs through three miles of scenic countryside between Bristol and Bath. Opened in 1869 by the Midland Railway as part of a through route from Birmingham to the South Coast, it was later linked to the famous Somerset and Dorset Railway. The line was closed in the 1960s, but has since been rebuilt and reopened by dedicated volunteers. Visitors can enjoy heritage train rides behind steam or diesel locomotives, take a seat in a First Class carriage for a cream tea, or book an Afternoon Tea or Sunday Lunch in the static restaurant carriage Rose. The railway also runs popular themed events, including Santa Specials, Teddy Bears Picnics, Chocolate Sundays, and Magic Train experiences. Bitton Station is the main hub, with a buffet, shop, and free museum. The station provides level access, and free parking is available on site. The line offers views across the Avon Valley, making it a relaxing and family-friendly day out. The Avon Valley Railway is entirely volunteer-run and continues to preserve, restore, and operate trains for future generations to enjoy.
